What is a migration process?

A citizen of a foreign country who wishes to enter the United States must generally first obtain a U.S. visa. Printed in the traveler's passport, some international travelers may be eligible to travel to the United States without a visa if they meet the requirements for travel without such a document.

The Visas section of this website discusses the types of U.S. visas for different nationalities who require a visa and wish to travel to the United States.
How to apply?
Complete the visa application online or with the help of a legal advisor. To begin the process, you must complete the following steps:
1) Complete the nonimmigrant visa application (form DS-160) either online or through a legal advisor
2) Print the confirmation page of the application form to take to your interview. Photo: You must upload your photo when completing the DS-160 form online. Your photo must be in the format explained in the Photo Requirements.
If the process is carried out through a legal advisor, he or she must submit all the correct documentation to obtain your consular appointment.
Costs
The nonimmigrant visa application fee is US$230, subject to the current exchange rate. This fee is individual for each applicant and applies to both children and adults; there are no discounts for family groups. The visa application fee is non-refundable and non-transferable and must be paid to obtain a consular appointment.

How status adjustment works

If you are already in the U.S. on a nonimmigrant visa, you may be able to apply for adjustment of status to obtain a lawful permanent resident card (Green Card) without leaving the country. However, before you can apply for adjustment of status, an immigration petition must be filed on your behalf. Learn about the U.S. adjustment of status process to determine: Which category qualifies you to apply for a Green Card. How to file your immigrant petition. What forms and documents you need. What in-person appointments you might have with U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). When you will receive your Green Card.

Renew or replace your permanent resident card (Green Card)

How to Renew or Replace Your Green Card The most common reasons for requesting a new permanent resident card are: Your Green Card has expired or will expire within six months. Your Green Card was lost, stolen, or damaged. You need to change your name or correct other information. If you are a legal permanent resident, you can renew or replace your Green Card.
